"We will never build a sex robot," says Mustafa Suleyman
Mustafa Suleyman, CEO of Microsoft AI, is trying to walk a fine line. On the one hand, he thinks that the industry is taking AI in a dangerous direction by building chatbots that present as human: He worries that people will be tricked into seeing life instead of lifelike behavior. In August, he published a much-discussed post on his personal blog that urged his peers to stop trying to make what he called " seemingly conscious artificial intelligence," or SCAI. On the other hand, Suleyman runs a product shop that must compete with those peers. Last week, Microsoft announced a string of updates to its Copilot chatbot, designed to boost its appeal in a crowded market in which customers can pick and choose between a pantheon of rival bots that already includes ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, DeepSeek, and more.

Large Language Model-Based Knowledge Graph System Construction for Sustainable Development Goals: An AI-Based Speculative Design Perspective
From 2000 to 2015, the UN's Millennium Development Goals guided global priorities. The subsequent Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted a more dynamic approach, with annual indicator updates. As 2030 nears and progress lags, innovative acceleration strategies are critical. This study develops an AI-powered knowledge graph system to analyze SDG interconnections, discover potential new goals, and visualize them online. Using official SDG texts, Elsevier's keyword dataset, and 1,127 TED Talk transcripts (2020.01-2024.04), a pilot on 269 talks from 2023 applies AI-speculative design, large language models, and retrieval-augmented generation. Key findings include: (1) Heatmap analysis reveals strong associations between Goal 10 and Goal 16, and minimal coverage of Goal 6. (2) In the knowledge graph, simulated dialogue over time reveals new central nodes, showing how richer data supports divergent thinking and goal clarity. (3) Six potential new goals are proposed, centered on equity, resilience, and technology-driven inclusion. This speculative-AI framework offers fresh insights for policymakers and lays groundwork for future multimodal and cross-system SDG applications.

It's not too late to stop Trump and the Silicon Valley broligarchy from controlling our lives, but we must act now Carole Cadwalladr
To walk into the lion's den once might be considered foolhardy. To do so again after being mauled by the lion? Six years ago I gave a talk at Ted, the world's leading technology and ideas conference. It led to a gruelling lawsuit and a series of consequences that reverberate through my life to this day. And last week I returned. To give another talk that would incorporate some of my experience: a Ted Talk about being sued for giving a Ted Talk, and how the lessons I'd learned from surviving all that were a model for surviving "broligarchy" – a concept I first wrote about in the Observer in July last year: the alignment of Silicon Valley and autocracy, and a kind of power the world has never seen before.

Revamping Multilingual Agreement Bidirectionally via Switched Back-translation for Multilingual Neural Machine Translation
Lu, Hongyuan, Huang, Haoyang, Ma, Shuming, Zhang, Dongdong, Wei, Furu, Lam, Wai
Despite the fact that multilingual agreement (MA) has shown its importance for multilingual neural machine translation (MNMT), current methodologies in the field have two shortages: (i) require parallel data between multiple language pairs, which is not always realistic and (ii) optimize the agreement in an ambiguous direction, which hampers the translation performance. We present \textbf{B}idirectional \textbf{M}ultilingual \textbf{A}greement via \textbf{S}witched \textbf{B}ack-\textbf{t}ranslation (\textbf{BMA-SBT}), a novel and universal multilingual agreement framework for fine-tuning pre-trained MNMT models, which (i) exempts the need for aforementioned parallel data by using a novel method called switched BT that creates synthetic text written in another source language using the translation target and (ii) optimizes the agreement bidirectionally with the Kullback-Leibler Divergence loss. Experiments indicate that BMA-SBT clearly improves the strong baselines on the task of MNMT with three benchmarks: TED Talks, News, and Europarl. In-depth analyzes indicate that BMA-SBT brings additive improvements to the conventional BT method.

How AI Could Empower Any Business
Expensive to build and often needing highly skilled engineers to maintain, artificial intelligence systems generally only pay off for large tech companies with vast amounts of data. But what if your local pizza shop could use AI to predict which flavor would sell best each day of the week? Andrew Ng shares a vision for democratizing access to AI, empowering any business to make decisions that will increase their profit and productivity. Learn how we could build a richer society – all with just a few self-provided data points. Here Are the Top 10 Ted Talks on AI That Are a Must-Watch
In the current scenario, where everything is going digital, Ted Talks have a great role in educating and imparting knowledge to a wider audience. These engaging interactions have robbed the minds of people and Ted Talks do not consume a lot of time. Instead, they just spread ideas in a very concise, interactive form so that it hooks and does not bore the audience. Ted Talks cover a wide variety of themes and topics, technology is one of them. It has a great archive of talks on artificial intelligence.

Want your child to be a greatest thinker: allow to play more!
A plain playground seems attractive over hundreds of man-hours beautifully chiseled and crafted classroom for a child. Imagine if classrooms were like a playground, the learning would be at its highest. This might not be attractive to educators and parents because of constant pressure of academic readiness. This'attractiveness' isn't supported by volumes of research, play is vital for scientific inquiry and conceptual thinking. Play is fun and voluntary.

Artificial Intelligence is not the cure for the COVID-19 infodemic
More than 3 billion people–around 50 percent of the world's population–engage with and post content online. Some of that content is misleading and potentially harmful, whether by design or as a side effect of its spread and manipulation. With the billions of daily active users on social media platforms, even if a mere 0.1 percent of total content contains mis or disinformation, there is a vast volume of content to review. In response to this challenge, automated content review technologies have emerged as an enticing and scalable solution to help triage mis/disinformation online. Yet, while many technology companies and social media platforms have promoted artificial intelligence (AI) as an omnipotent tactic to address mis/disinformation, AI is not a panacea for information challenges.

Discover the Best of AI by Just Watching Videos
I started down the AI rabbit hole two years ago. Looking back, I never felt like I was studying -- I was having fun. To me, AI was simply much cooler than most things at work or at school. It was real-life science fiction, and I felt like I was binge-watching good TV. Artificial Intelligence should not be intimidating.
